MASSA Club – Open Ceramics Studio

MASSA Club is for those who have already taken part in 4–5 ceramics workshops with us or have learned the basics of our hand-building techniques. During your studio time, you can rely on us for guidance and assistance just as you would in our guided workshops, while having the flexibility to create at your own pace during our opening hours.

The studio fee is calculated based on the time spent in the studio and the materials used. Studio time is calculated in 30-minute intervals, with each started half-hour charged accordingly.

Workshop equipment

In the workshop, you will find a variety of high-fire stoneware clays, as well as a wide selection of glazes, from glossy to matte, and from vibrant colors to more natural shades. Additionally, various underglazes and engobes are available. Glazes are typically fired at cone 5–6 temperatures.

The workshop is equipped for hand-building ceramics. There is no electric pottery wheel available, but all necessary hand tools are at your disposal, as well as a slab roller and large, comfortable work surfaces.

We periodically expand our offerings with seasonal materials and materials for special techniques (e.g., lustres or colored clays for nerikomi).

Prices

Prices consist of two parts: an hourly membership fee (which covers
studio access and equipment use), and a fee for materials used and firings, calculated based on the weight of the wet clay consumed. The cost of materials and firings is charged based on actual consumption each time.

How does billing work?

At the end of each session, we weigh the original, wet weight of the finished items, and calculate the material fee based on this. Unused, clean clay is returned to stock, so you naturally do not have to pay for it.

The cost of the second firing and glazing is also calculated based on the original wet weight, not the amount of glaze used.

Booking an appointment

For club members, we publish open studio hours every month, for which you can sign up. When booking, you only need to select your arrival time. You can stay in the studio as long as you wish, within the current studio usage time slot published on the website.

Please book/cancel your appointment at least 24 hours, but no later than 2 hours before your arrival, if possible.
